200 years – Alfred Escher and Gottfried Keller "traces of the future"

Alfred Escher and Gottfried Keller are not only linked by the common year 1819. They have both left significant traces in history – one politically, economically, socially, the other culturally. These traces are not only clearly recognizable in retrospect, but extend beyond the present day and call for a confrontation with the future.

Under the slogan "traces of the future", we will reflect the work of Alfred Escher and place it in a current context.

The first will be held internally by IAD and the second will be together with trends & identity. In the afternoon, Escher biographer Prof. Joseph Jung giving a lecture on Alfred Escher. Then there is a short introduction to the BUXX app. On the second day, an individual city walk with the BUXX app will take place followed by an introductory event. On the third and last day of the first week, there is a tour of important places by Alfred Escher. In the afternoon, an exchange with trends & identity students takes place in groups.

The first week is fully focused on getting more involved in the topic and gathering requirements.

– Requirements Gathering & Design Concept

The second week to turn your written UI concept into wireframes. These are the basis for a low-fi click dummy you use to test you application with potential users.

Present your concept ideas in a short essay (approx. 1000 characters). Describe how you plan to implement the project briefing, define your personal project goal and document your initial thoughts on the process flow with wireframes, describing the user journeys and highlighting the key features. Attach your findings to your Frontify 'Concept' page.

  • Written UI concept & concept sketches / user journey
  • Prioritized feature list in the form of user stories

Deliverables Week 2

Create a low-fi prototype from your formulated questions for a formative usability evaluation and do a guerrilla usability testing with at least 3 candidates. Upload a screencapture of the prototype, the scenarios and findings of your testing to your Frontify 'Prototype & Testing' section.

  • Low-fi click dummy
  • Evaluation report documenting the findings of your user tests

third week starts with a concept presentation at trend & identity. The third week starts with a concept presentation at trend & identity. A good opportunity to possibly pick up concepts and collaborate on or develop them further. This is not a must, it is just a possibility. The other possibility is to develop an independent concept. The task is to develop three concepts and present them with sketches. The sketches should be formulated so that they are understandable to an outsider.

Deliverables Week 3

Three Concepts in the form of sketches

Week 4 (CW49) – Design Concept and Wireframe & Testing

The fourth week starts with an input event on the theme of sketching, wire framing and testing. One of the three concepts is revised and worked out.

Having ensured that the rough UI of your app is understandable to users, you turn to design the look&feel of your application. You use two key views to design two (or more) design proposals. In coordination with your mentor (latest 10.10.2017 / 17:00) you decide on one design proposal to be implemented.
Use quick prototyping tools (like principle, framer, craft, …) to demonstrate your keyfeatures and microinteractions.

Deliverables Week 34

A digitally worked out concept with sketches.

Create two proposals for a look and feel demonstrated on key views of your project. Create a mockup demonstrating the key features and micro-interactions. Upload your material to your Frontify styleguide.

  • Two proposals for a look and feel demonstrated on two key views
  • Mockup demonstrating key features and microinteractions
