Objectives

The main objective of the course is to gain practical experience in creating a graphical user interface (GUI). Therefore the students will apply their theoretical knowledge on design methods and processes to create an interactive prototype for the SBB ticket machine. The students will work in groups of 3 and follow these steps:

  • Analyse context
    • Observe users, understand behavior, needs and tasks
    • Analyze existing applications of SBB and competitors
  • Create interaction concept
    • Define personas & major use cases
    • Create wireframe concept
  • Develop prototype
    • Experiment with prototyping tools
    • Create Lo-Fi prototype
  • Apply visual design
    • Transform wireframes into brand compliant appearance
    • Create Hi-Fi prototype
  • Conduct user test

Deliverables

  • Interactive prototype
  • Documentation (PDF or Blog)
  • Screencast
  • Video of user testing

Grading

The grades will be based on the final work result (interactive prototype), its documentation, group presentation as well as class participation. Contributing to constructive group feedback is an essential aspect of class participation. Regular attendance is required. Two or more unexcused absences will affect the final grade. Arriving late on more than one occasion will also affect the grade.

  • Interactive prototype 50%
  • Group presentation 25%
  • Documentation 25%
