Design Process 2 | 2022
2 ECTS
Learning objectives / competences
Students will:
explore and deepen their own creative and thematic interests by dealing with practical input presented
gain practical skills in physical computing, basic coding and immersive art technologies or other skills
become familiar with explorative and knowledge-oriented approaches and processes
apply skill-oriented learnings to inform their master's project.
Content
By means of different workshops, students will explore tools, skills and production methods of current and emerging technologies (eg. arduino, motion capture, photogrammetry, etc) to deepen their master's projects while prototyping and testing ideas.
Creative procedures, methods, hypotheses and explanations are put up for discussion while practical exercises allow an examination of explorative and knowledge-oriented processes.
The resulting project's explorations can take the form of interactive installations, immersive experiences, videos, and prototype artefacts or performances.
Skills courses descriptions
Basic Programming, Bits & Atoms
This seminar series covers sensing & acting and data visualization. We focus on the role of technology and its relevance for design in contemporary contexts and in future scenarios.
Physical computing
Understanding the characteristics of interaction with digital and physical objects and the technologies behind them. Conception, planning and implementation of solutions to interaction design problems. Knowledge in electronics, microcontroller programming, sensors and actuators.
Immersive Arts
Learn how to create immersive experiences in Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and their combination by using the technologies of the Immersive Arts Space. Participants will get to know practical methods, procedures and software, including 3D scanning, photogrammetry, motion capture, projection mapping, game engines and 3D audio. Exploring and combining different technologies to develop and prototype an immersive experience for the master project. A special focus will be put on the intersection of reality and virtuality.
Other courses
Students can pick from other courses provided by other departments in the ZHdK. The course should be running in the same semester as Design Processes 2 and be relevant for the Thesis Theory / Practice master project. Please inform Stella Speziali if you chose a course that is not provided by the Master in Interaction Design.
